FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

This is a great question and is not just for the beginner… It’s for ALL to see…… Here are a few guidelines that everyone is expected to follow on race day.  If people follow these guidelines, it will make everyone’s day more enjoyable and less expensive.  This is referred to as “Racers Etiquette”.

  1. Drivers who are about to be lapped, should allow the “FASTER CAR” to pass them “UNOBSTRUCTED” as soon as there is an opportunity to do so.
  2. This is a big one---Drivers need to understand that an RC track does not have defined driving lanes, BUT this does not mean that each driver gets to use the whole track as a lane.  Each driver should “HOLD” their lane, when another car is beside them….
    1. For example;  If you are going into a turn in the “inside” lane, you need to exit that turn in the “inside” lane (again, only if another car is beside you)
    2. This is the same for the car going into a turn (with another car) on the “outside”.  If you take a turn on the “outside”, you need to exit on the “outside”…

When Drivers “Fail” to maintain “Their “lanes they cause crashes and this is discouraged at Medina R/C Raceway.

  1. For example; you go into a turn in the “inside” lane, BUT exit that turn in the “outside” lane (just to set up for the next turn).  Well, this move causes you to “cross” lanes and then cause an unnecessary crash.  Please try to avoid doing this to other people.

By following these guidelines (while on the track) we will decrease crashes, replacement parts and arguments between drivers (WHICH IS DISCOURAGED), AND everyone will enjoy their day much more. Here are a few more that will deal with “turn marshalling” or Flipping over a crashed car.

  1. When a driver needs to be turn marshaled.  Please DO NOT hit the gas when your car is being handled by that turn marshal.  YOU COULD HURT THEM.
    1. BE WARNED –a “turn marshal” may not handle your car if you are hitting the gas. You’ll just be laying there, like a turtle
    2. You MUST pull your car “OFF THE TRACK” if your body comes off for any reason.  Once secure you may go back out to finish the race.  (This is to protect the turn marshal’s fingers from the moving parts).
  2. Each driver is responsible to turn marshal the race that immediately follows their race.
    1. Please get out to your spot as soon as possible so, that the next race can start “on time”.  (The Race director or a Driver can tell you how to know where to go).
    2. Please turn marshal with a little purpose, remembering that other people are RACING.  A good rule of thumb here—is to get to a car and flip it, the same way you would want your car marshaled if you were in FIRST PLACE.

By following these guidelines you will have a great fun day, and “fit in” with the rest of the drivers out here.  Come out and have some fun!!!

How early can I get on the track on normal race days?     (Back to Top)

The park is open from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.   The race director usually arrives at the track by 9:00 a.m. to begin track preparations for the day.  A good time to arrive for practice would probably be anytime after 10:00 a.m.

What time are sign-ups and when does racing start?     (Back to Top)

Sign-ups for normal race days are 11:00 am - 1:15 p.m. with racing starting at 2:00 p.m.  Please see Pro Series Info. for practice and race day times.

How is the race day run?     (Back to Top)

Qualifying:  Qualifying consists of three five minute rounds per class.  Each qualifying round contains eight to ten heats depending on racer turnout.  There are three minutes between each heat to get the racers checked in and ready to go as well as for the marshals to get to their spots .  After the three minutes have expired, we will start the race.  We HAVE to stick to this schedule to keep the program running smoothly.  If you miss the start of your qualifier, you can join in at any time.  Although you will miss some laps, this will provide an excellent opportunity for timed practice.  Don't worry if you miss the start of a qualifier, there are two other qualifiers to get in a good run.  We use a driver's single fastest qualifying run to set up the mains.

Main Events:  The length of the main event will vary depending on how you qualify.  Most mains are five minutes, but the A-mains are normally longer if time permits.  For example, we normally run fifteen minute A-mains for 1/8 Scale Buggy and Arena Truck.  Up to twelve cars will be run in each main.  For the nitro classes, there will be one bump up from the lower main.  This means that if you win the lower main, you are automatically eligible to be moved up to the twelfth spot in the higher main.  Because of the bump up spot, we will only qualify eleven cars in the nitro mains.  For the electric classes, we will fill all twelve spots based on the qualifying results.

What is a Hot Track?    (Back to Top)

Hot track applies only to our nitro classes.  During the three minute time between heats, the nitro vehicles are allowed on the track to warm up.  When there is one minute to go, the Race Director will announce "Come in to get fuel."  When the three minute clock between heats runs out, the track goes "live" or "hot".  This means that when you cross the starting line, your five minute clock starts.  The idea is to get all the cars spread out before the start of the qualifier.  Drivers are not permitted to stop and "wait" for the track is live tone.  Please keep your car moving.

Does the timing system support personal transponders?    (Back to Top)

Yes, Medina R/C Raceway welcomes drivers who utilize personal transponders. We actually prefer personal transponders over house transponders because it makes the sign-up process much faster for both the racer and the race director.

Do I have to buy a personal transponder to race?    (Back to Top)

No, we have house transponders for the racers to use during their races.  The transponders are shared by all racers during the day alternating black and blue transponders every other heat.  Be sure to check the heat sheet to get the correct transponder color and number!  Transponders must be returned to the rack as soon as your race is over and before you head out to marshall.

What do I need to bring with me?    (Back to Top)

Bring your R/C stuff, table, chair, EZ-up and extension cord (if you need A/C power).

What tires work best for the track?    (Back to Top)

Please refer to the Classes page for popular tire choices in each class.

What can I do for food?    (Back to Top)

You are welcome to bring your own food or there are various fast food restaurants close-by as well as various pizza places which will deliver to the track.

How much does it cost to race?   (Back to Top)

The cost on normal race days for your first class is $15.00 with each additional class being $5.00 each.  Children age twelve and under are $5 with a paid adult. Please see Pro Series Info. for practice and race day costs.

I see on the schedule - No Limit R/C Monster Trucks - What is that?   (Back to Top)

We have teamed up with “No Limit” of Ohio to bring our customers several different monster truck events to Medina R/C Raceway.  These events will be held in conjunction to our regular race program on those days listed on the schedule.  We are proud to hold these events to help the monster truck drivers enjoy their Monster Trucks.
These events will include (but not limited to)

  1. Racing
  2. Freestyle
  3. Long Jump
  4. Truck or Tractor Pull

Everyone will be able to check the “No Limit” website for more information.  Coming Soon.

What are the fees for the No Limit R/C events?   (Back to Top)

The Fees for this event are separate from Medina’s Fees, but we do offer a special.

  1. The cost to enter the “No Limit Event” only…..is $20 (you will do whatever is on No Limit’s schedule of events).

If you would like to race with Medina, and do the “No Limit” events, you may choose to do both.

  1. The cost to do both is $20.  That’s right the same $20 will allow you to enter BOTH events.
  1. For example: A monster truck and a buggy. You pay $20 and you are entered in both events for the day, but if you only have a buggy your fee will still only be $15. You are basically paying to run a regular race day. If you only have a monster truck, and are only going to enter the No Limit event, your fee is $20 due to the fact that this is an outside organization that regulates their own fees.

How will I know if a race day is rained out before I leave home?  (Back to Top)

This is the million dollar question!  Ohio's crazy weather makes this process difficult for us.  We will make every effort to get each race day in.  However, if Mother Nature insists on dumping rain on us and we have to cancel a race day, it will be displayed on the top of our home page under weather updates.  We cannot guarantee at what time of day a race will be called, but as soon as we know, you will know!  We understand some of our racers travel a long distance to come race with us.  So, if the weather looks bad, you may want to wait as long as possible and check the website before leaving.  We also have a weather page which links to the local radar for the Medina area which may be helpful.

What happens if it rains before the end of the race day?   (Back to Top)

If it rains after the conclusion of the second round, the race day is considered a complete day and is scored as such.  If this happens on a Points Day, the fastest qualifier in each class will be the winner and receive the one bonus point for the top qualifying position as well as first place points.  Second place receives second place points and so on down the line.

If the day gets rained out before the conclusion of the second qualifier, it will be considered a total rain out.  Everyone entered to race that day will be on a list to receive one free race day equivalent to their entries for the rained out race day.  (ie. If you entered two classes on the rainout, the free entry would be for the same.)

If it rains on an Ohio Pro Series Race Day, R/C Pro Series sanctioned rules will apply.

What happens if we get rained out & can't run the full four races in a points series?   (Back to Top)

To help ensure that we can run all four races in each series, there are at least two possible rain makeup days.  In the event that we get rained out on more than two days, the series will still have one drop with the total races in the series being reduced accordingly. (ie. 2 out of 3)
